FADT
The generally low crime statistics in the RCID are testament to the successful partnership between RCID, Fidelity ADT, Rondebosch SAPS and Octotel.
What are the benefits of the partnership with FADT?
There are five dedicated FADT vehicles in the area. These consist of two armed - response vehicles and three patrol vehicles.
FADT also provides a dedicated 24/7 RCID Communications Hub. The Hub provides the Rondebosch community with a quick and important communication channel with both FADT and SAPS.
Assistance with non-emergencies, such as the Meet and Greet service and the reporting of civic matters (lights out of orders; blocked drains; potholes etc.
FADT controllers to monitor the RCID Communications Hub 24/7 (situated at the Riverton entrance of Bishops High School). Primarily the role of these three specially trained controllers is to monitor the RCID cameras and maintain contact with the patrol vehicles. They have direct access to the Fidelity ADT control room and Rondebosch SAPS. The staff are trained to liaise with victims of crime immediately after the incident.
The monitoring by the Hub controllers of the local street WhatsApp groups and immediate response to any emergencies or queries raised in these forums.
Employment of a full-time RCID manager, whose main task is to attend to day-to-day operations. The RCID manager reports to the RCID Committee. The current manager is Taryn Galloway. Taryn welcomes any residents to meet with her at the RCID office situated next to the Communications Hub.
What are the benefits of the partnership with Rondebosch SAPS?
Excellent teamwork and collaboration that results in expeditious response and dedicated attention to security in our community.
Our RCID Manager attends the weekly SAPS security meetings
The attendance and updates by SAPS at the monthly committee meetings
The hosting of the Eden and Eve workshops by SAPS for local domestic, caring and gardening staff. The workshops focus on security protocols and are free of charge.
The demonstration of community support to the police station by providing the services of a station gardener and financial support for the Survivors of Crime (trauma counselling) office at the station.
What are the benefits of the partnership with Octotel?
All the RCID cameras have been converted from ADSL to fibre by Octotel. Fibre ensures greater camera stability, reliability, and coverage in the RCID.
The RCID have also upgraded the UPS for loadshedding and have improved our video-clip storage system.
In addition to the above key partnerships, the RCID has an excellent working relationship with the local ward councillor for Rondebosch. We are kept fully informed of developments relating to safety and security, as well as other community matters, and pass these on to the residents in the weekly newsletter.
