WHO WE ARE
The Rondebosch Community Improvement District (RCID) was formed by a group of Rondebosch residents in 2000. It is a volunteer association of residents as opposed to a City structured CID or Ratepayers Association.
The Association abides by the terms of the RCID Constitution formed in 2000. Click here for link to the RCID Constitution.
The main function of the RCID is to govern safety initiatives in its demarcated area and work in close partnership with FADT and SAPS.
Secondary functions relate to civic and community matters in the area. Our current chairman, Bruce Burmeister, represents the RCID on the Ward 58 Committee.
The RCID is managed by a committee of volunteer residents that meet monthly to discuss security and civic matters. Meetings are frequently attended by Rondebosch SAPS, FADT, and the local Ward Councillor.
The RCID employs a full-time manager, Taryn Galloway, to oversee day-to-day operations.
At our Annual General Meeting (AGM), open to all RCID members, we report on activities, finances, and forthcoming plans, as well as elect and confirm membership on the RCID Committee.

MEMBERSHIP
Residents contracted with Fidelity ADT (the current service provider in partnership with the RCID) are automatically RCID members and enjoy the full benefits provided by this partnership.
In the spirit of community, non-FADT clients are welcome to participate in all community and civic related matters, and naturally benefit from community related security initiatives in the RCID, such as common areas camera monitoring and the patrolling of our streets by the five dedicated FADT security patrol vehicles.
HOW IS THE RCID FUNDED?
Fidelity ADT adds a premium to their customers’ subscriptions from which it makes a monthly payment to RCID. Fidelity ADT pays the salaries of the Hub staff directly, though all IT systems and camera equipment is owned by the RCID
RCID has full control over the spending income it receives from FADT.
There are four primary areas of spending: the RCID manager’s salary, capital expenditure to upgrade IT systems and cameras; maintenance
of the same and various security related initiatives the RCID Committee feels is necessary to undertake to improve the overall security in the area.
Examples of expenditure would be fencing, cameras, cleaning, clearing, community related projects (including Rondebosch SAPS garden assistance) and Eden and Eve Workshops for domestic and gardeners.
The fixed monthly contribution is paid independently of how many subscribers are signed up to FADT in the RCID area. RCID does not take any credit risk or settlement risk and receives funds independently of whether FADT is successful in collecting the funds from residents or not.
